A December rant

Our calender captures us in the month of December already into its third day. It is easiest to either put things off or half-heartidly follow other people's pace minus engaging the ole noggin.

I am putting the boxing gloves against the everlasting calender by creating actions which I have declared most important to myself. Keeping myself in tip-top shape has become a center pillar in my priorities.... yes, I know that I have passed the average peak age [27 years old] for a professional athlete by a full twenty years. My point is that sometimes you have to throw things out the window and go by your instinct.

On the other hand, the old cliche, "knowledge is power," ought to be put into action to help finish complete the circle. I tend to have a book planted in front of my failing eyes on one hand, while often using complicated statistical analysis on the other hand. I have a need to sort through the chaos of life with as many mediums as possible.

A small sample of my influences include the hard working Benjamin Franklin, the out of the box thinking by baseball's statistical guru, Bill James, Bruce Lee's combination of hard work and scientific data to constantly tweak his workouts, and Mark Twain's healthy dose of cynicism to help put his own world in a warped perspective.

All the words etched above proves to myself that their are various assorted ways to reach any decision. My goal of running 50 miles for the month of December [or slightly over eighty kilometers for you metric aficionados] and also working out in total media silence is decided by not only how I feel, but by what I have analyzed to the point of seeing if I am ready to point towards a certain goal.
