A December rant
Our calender captures us in the month of December already into its third day. It is easiest to either put things off or half-heartidly follow other people's pace minus engaging the ole noggin.
I am putting the boxing gloves against the everlasting calender by creating actions which I have declared most important to myself. Keeping myself in tip-top shape has become a center pillar in my priorities.... yes, I know that I have passed the average peak age [27 years old] for a professional athlete by a full twenty years. My point is that sometimes you have to throw things out the window and go by your instinct.
On the other hand, the old cliche, "knowledge is power," ought to be put into action to help finish complete the circle. I tend to have a book planted in front of my failing eyes on one hand, while often using complicated statistical analysis on the other hand. I have a need to sort through the chaos of life with as many mediums as possible.
A small sample of my influences include the hard working Benjamin Franklin, the out of the box thinking by baseball's statistical guru, Bill James, Bruce Lee's combination of hard work and scientific data to constantly tweak his workouts, and Mark Twain's healthy dose of cynicism to help put his own world in a warped perspective.
All the words etched above proves to myself that their are various assorted ways to reach any decision. My goal of running 50 miles for the month of December [or slightly over eighty kilometers for you metric aficionados] and also working out in total media silence is decided by not only how I feel, but by what I have analyzed to the point of seeing if I am ready to point towards a certain goal.

Equivalent Miles [EQM]
What do you get when you mix a math nerd with a a slow runner in training?
Ever since Mark Twain blurted out the infamous phrase, "There are lies, damn lies, and then there are statistics," people have questioned the world according to mathematical statistics... so I beleive some individuals will doubt this self serving training statistic I have called equivalent miles [EQM].
First of all, why does somebody want to create a statistic called EQM? In short, nothing is created equal. Therefore, I am trying to figure out a way to level out a way to evaluate my training whenever I sweat my way through training. Hence, EQM is a way to turn every matrix into miles even when your muscles do not creep an inch forward.
Cut to the chase... lets figure out EQM in my own little world of running by dissecting my training journal.
1. Simply add the amount of miles running and you divide the walking by one half. You can figure a way to add in other forms of sport [ie; bicycling, swimming, etc.] but there must be some sort of handicap which I am not covering today.
2. With your handy pedomiter, figure out the amount of steps taken and divide it by 1760 and again divide this outcome by 4 because household/work walking-strolling is not extremly substancial, but enough to take this semi-leasure activity into minor account.
3. When movement is lacking because the runner is performing his training either via strengthing his/her muscles, performing yoga for better balance and additional stretching, or other activities to improve running while the individual is not in motion. I simply equate one mile for every fiveteen minutes of this sometimes sweat-drenching physical extra carricular activity.
So lets simply open up my training journal and show you my final outcome.
1. Running : 1.92 miles
2. Yoga and strength training : one hour and 18 minutes = 5.2 miles
3. Additional steps : 12,000 = divide this figure by 1,760 and divide again by 4 = 1.70 miles
4. Final : 1.92 + 5.2 + 1.70 = 8.82 EQM
1. Walking : 2.10 = 1.05 miles
2. Yoga and strength training : fourty eight minutes = 5.2 miles
3. Additional Steps : 8000 = 1.14 miles
4. Final : 1.05 + 5.2 + 1.14 = 7.39 EQM
LET THE DEBATE BEGIN!

October Goal
As I have been working out on my Wii Fit for the past eighty days and the fall weather has finally reached us Midwestern natives, I junked my old cheap Asics, purchased a great pair of New Balance, and let my shoes pound on the sidewalks. Even though things are currently kind of painful right now, I already feel some improvement in my running over just three sessions. Yes, I am a newbie and no telling if I will stick with this, but I have decided to shoot for 50 miles, but I will not knock myself out in case I fail.
Bigger Government = Less Privacy
Arguably our most famous founding father, Benjamen Franklin passionately declared, "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Currently, these words come across loud and clear as we sacrifice liberty in the name of safety [hand-in hand with computer technology] the more exposed our citizenry is sacrificing its Fourth Amendment rights.
Franklin's testimony about liberty vs. security is just as relevant now as it was first orated in 1775. As our Founding Fathers fought against the tyranny of British monarchists, our current Constitutionalists use their First Amendment rights against out of control government. These freedom fighters are standing up against the DC insiders, who resemble oligarchs, pretending to duke it out under the guise of the Democratic and Republican Parties. I simply refer to most of these sheep as "modern day progressives."
Give Up Liberty to Gain Security
Beltway insiders are surrendering every one's liberties in order to create "safety." So, where is this so called "safety zone?" Is playing the role of "big brother" really helping our citizenship to stay secured?
The answer is not just a plain no, but a "HELL NO!" To demolish the Fourth Amendment,["The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."]and strike it out with a permanent black marker, politicians and lobbyists create a post-constitutional society which strips citizens of this inalienable right.. By creating an enormous mega government, inhabitants of the United States gives up its once taken for granted right to be left alone.
Will Deserve Neither And Lose Both
I am fully convinced that America is proceeding to more dangerous turf as legislation is piled up, one on top of another. As I comment about how our Fourth Amendment rights to avoid unreasonable searches and seizures are being brought to light, it is becoming more evident that with every statist advocating to increase the size of government, a few more federal departments are added while computer technology is used to track citizen data, directly or indirectly.
Legislative tyranny is self evident every time a lobbyist, big or small, pulls the perpetual wool over the television addicted masses. While many more individuals are now taking on the Jeffersonian model of proactively educating themselves in civics and history, the vast majority of unstudied citizens do not understand the role that a few corrupt self interest/corporate lobbyists are trumping the original intent of the United State's Constitution... legislation in the name of "We the people, not special interests!"
Franklin's wisdom about the subject of liberty and security is just as relevant in this twenty first century digital age as it was during the age of the colonial printing presses. Asides from corrupt lobbyists benefiting by creating "safety minded" legislation, we the people are lied to by the ever expanding government to the point of surrendering our god given Fourth Amendment rights by the punch of a few computer keystrokes.
